Some twenty-eight years ago as I sat under the shade of a large walnut tree, my attention was drawn to one of its fallen branches. It was small and old and it changed my life forever. It was with this small piece of walnut that I began my life as an artist. Since that time my work has taken two distinct directions. One is heavily influenced by the rich tradition of classical sculpture with its focus on realism. But rather than simply mimic this style I have worked to blend classical and contemporary elements to create a voice of my own. The other direction my work has taken reflects my passion for abstract expressionism and minimalism. In these works I have refined the human figure to basic geometric forms. With simple lines and planes I work to capture the essence of movement and gesture. Both styles of work have in common a positive view of the human condition. The message I work to convey is that life is about possibilities. |
